Change is in the Air

I love this time of the year..which is really only noticeable to Floridians. You know, when it’s just 3 or 4 degrees cooler but makes a world of difference, no more blistering heat. It’s so nice to be outside!

Can anyone believe the year is almost up? It feels like yesterday we were just wishing each of you a Happy New Year! Where did the year go?? 2013 has been a very exciting year for us. Many of you know we opened a 2nd studio around the Design District/Morningside area. Our Beyond The Basics Pilates Teacher Training program is going very well and we are happy to see some of our graduates teach at both studios.

Speaking of teachers, we are getting ready to start another Beyond The Basics Training Series in November. We’ve made some programming changes to our training program with increased flexibility. If you know of anyone wanting to become a certified Pilates teacher, please have them check us out.

Recently, Jackie went to a 2 day seminar to learn about the MELT Method®, which is a breakthrough self-treatment system that restores the supportiveness of the body’s connective tissue to eliminate chronic pain, improve performance, and decrease the accumulated stress caused by repetitive postures and movements of everyday living. New research has revealed the missing link to pain-free living: a balanced nervous system and healthy connective tissue. These two components work together to provide whole-body support, protection, and mind-body communication.

MELT improves: flexibility & mobility, posture, the results of exercise, range of motion, sleep & digestion, overall well-being

MELT reduces: aches & pains, wrinkles & cellulite, tension, headaches, risk of injury

How does MELT work?

Day-to-day living creates tension within our bodies. Physical stressors range from sitting at a desk to running a marathon. Carrying children and heavy bags creates trapped tension, as does even the gentlest form of exercise. Emotional, mental, and environmental stressors such as processed foods, medications, environmental toxins, and daily worries all build tension in the body.

New science reveals that this “stuck stress” is literally trapped in our connective tissue, which surrounds every joint, muscle, nerve, bone, and organ. Unaddressed trapped stress causes connective tissue dehydration and cellular damage. This creates a domino effect that begins with aches and stiffness and leads to common health issues such as neck and low back pain, headaches, insomnia, digestive problems, and injury. Accelerated aging and chronic health problems can follow . . . leaving us with limited options such as medicine, surgery, and a sedentary lifestyle.

However, when the connective tissue is hydrated & free of roadblocks, our bodies function at a more optimal level. MELT is a technique that keeps our connective tissue & nervous system in top condition, slowing down the aging process. MELT rejuvenates tissue hydration & relieves the tension of day-to-day life that gets trapped in our bodies. No other proactive approach directly treats the connective tissue—including nutrition, exercise, yoga, or vitamins.

Keep your eyes open for MELT workshops coming to both studios later this Fall.

Here are some organizational tips from Bettina Osterwind @ Better Organizing Solutions, Inc. to help you & the kids adjust back into the rhythm of things:

  1. Sort through, donate and replenish kids clothes by enlisting them to clean out their closets; donate the old,no longer fitting clothes, to a local charity or shelter
  2. Create a homework station & stock it with tools and supplies in a nearby bin, cabinet or drawer & label them. This will help you to avoid last minute trips to the store throughout the year).
  3. Set up a family messaging center in a central location at home (usually the kitchen is ideal), including one consolidated calendar for everyone’s activities and a board/section for each family member with to-do’s & space for messages.
  4. Set the clocks in your house 10/15 minutes ahead of the actual time (without letting the rest of your family know). Once school starts, everyone always seems to run behind schedule, so this should help everyone stay on schedule and be on time.
